Adding items to the start menu in Windows 98SE, and XP. This procedure works with the classic start menu. Using this procedure should allow you to add items to the start menu anywhere in windows where the file menu is available, with the send to, option. Windows 98SE 1. From the desktop, select My Computer, and hit enter. 2. Select drive C, and hit enter. 3. Select Windows, and hit enter. 4. Hit the letterS, until you come to Start menu, and then go to the file menu, and select, create shortcut, and hit enter. 5. Now, press control end, to go to the bottom the list,where you will see your newly created shortcut 6. Copy it to the clipboard, and then press control home, to move you to the top of the file list. 7. Once more, hit the letter S, until you come to, send to, and then hit enter. 8. Paste your new shortcut here. Close all windows by pressing alt F4. 9. Now, when you would like a shortcut to appear on the start menu, you need only select the item, and then go to the file menu, and choose the send to option, and hit enter, and then hit enter on the start menu shortcut Windows XP 1. From the desktop, select, My Computer, and press enter. 2. Locate, local disk C, and press enter. 3. Select, Documents and Settings, and press enter. 4. Now select, "owner", or (your name), and press enter. 5. Highlight Start menu, and then go to the file menu, and select create shortcut, and press enter. NOTE: When adding items to the start menu,never add the item itself. First create a shortcut, and then place the shortcut on the start menu. 6. Press the endkey, to take you to the bottom of the list, and there should be your newly created shortcut. 7. With your new shortcut highlighted, copy it to the clipboard. 8. Now press the letter S, until you come to, "send to", and press enter. 9. Paste your new shortcut here. 10. Now press alt F4, to close all windows. You are done. Test your new shortcut, by highlighting a document in, "My Documents", and then going to the file menu, and pressing enter on create shortcut. Once you have created that shortcut,locate it in the list, and then return to the file menu, this time selecting, sent to, and pressing enter. Now arrow to start menu, and press enter. Now, when you access the start menu in the normal fashion, you should see your new item on the start menu. If you wish to delete this item or any other item from the start menu, simply highlight the item, and then press the applications key, located to the left of the right control key, on standard keyboards and then select delete from the menu choices.
