Editing Text Guide

Inserting text

When you insert text, it is inserted before the current character.

Movement

Description Keystroke
Move to start of line HOME
Move to end of line END
Move to start of document CTRL + HOME
Move to end of document CTRL + END

Selecting text

The keystrokes for selecting text are formed by adding SHIFT to the corresponding reading keystroke. The keystoke for saying the selected text is formed by adding SHIFT to the keystroke for reading all.

Description Keystroke
Extend the selection one character to the right, by selecting the current character SHIFT + RIGHT ARROW
Extend the selection one character to the left, by selecting the prior character SHIFT + LEFT ARROW
Extend the selection to the end of the current word SHIFT + INSERT + RIGHT ARROW
Extend the selection to the beginning of the prior word SHIFT + INSERT + LEFT ARROW
Extend the selection one line down SHIFT + DOWN ARROW
Extend the selection one line up SHIFT + UP ARROW
Select all CTRL + A
Say selected text SHIFT + INSERT + DOWN ARROW

Unselecting text

The most convenient way of unselecting text is to use either LEFT or RIGHT ARROW. If you use LEFT ARROW, then the current character is set the first character in the text which was selected. If you use RIGHT ARROW, then the current character is set to the first character after the text which was selected.

Editing text

Delete the current character DELETE
Delete the prior character BACKSPACE
Copy selected text to clipboard CTRL + C
Cut selected text to clipboard CTRL + X
Paste text from clipboard CTRL + V
Delete selected text DELETE
Undo the last command CTRL + Z
