Bulletin Type: FAQ Date Posted: 10/15/2001 Product Name: JAWS Version: Any Category: Video Question: Do I need to reinstall JAWS after installing a new video card? Answer: If you are using JAWS version 4.0 or earlier on a Windows 95, 98, or ME system, you do not need to reinstall JAWS after installing a new video card. If you are using JAWS version 4.02 or later on Windows NT, 2000, or XP and install a new video card and drivers from the manufacturer's Web site or CD, the JAWS Video Intercept Manager will ask you to reset the video hooks when you start JAWS. There are several ways to reset the video hooks. One way is to reinstall your version(s) of JAWS, but you would lose your saved settings and customizations. Two alternatives to a full reinstallation are detailed below. If necessary, you can press WINDOWS Key+U to start the Windows 2000/XP Narrator to assist you with these procedures. Method 1: To reset the video hooks via the JAWS Video Intercept Manager, do the following: 1. Start Video Intercept Manager by opening the Start menu and choosing Programs, JAWS (most recent version), Tools, Video Intercept Manager. 2. You must first remove any existing video hook. Press ALT+D for Detail and then press ALT+U to select Uninstall Video Intercept. Press ENTER then ALT+C to close the dialog box. 3. Restart your computer. 4. After you log in, start Video Intercept Manager again. You can then reset the video hook. Press ALT+D for Detail then press ALT+I to choose Install Video Intercept. Press ENTER then ALT+C to close the dialog box. 5. Restart your computer. Method 2: To reset the video hooks manually, do the following: 1. You must first remove any existing video hook.
