First install the program and the scripts. The scripts are a self extracting file that currently defaults to C:\jaws37U\settings\enu. If you are using a different release of Jaws, adjust accordingly. After you install the program, you will have an entry for Inachis on your programs menu. Enter or right arrow to open the submenu. You will hear e-backup. Enter on that and then enter again on e-backup to start the program. When you start the program, it will tell you to press control shift E for the available functions. Control shift e will present you with a list of e-backup functions. Insert H will remind you of this keystroke. The available functions in the list box are: "Create a new backup" "Restore a backup" "Schedule a backup" "Advanced configuration options" "The Inachis website" "on line help and support for e-backup" "check for e-backup product updates" "register e-backup 1.0" "exit e-backup" If you select 'Create a new backup' you will be in a standard save as type dialog and a filename will already be specified such as Backup 2001-03-04. The default folder where the backup will be saved will be my documents, you can specify another folder if you wish. Enter on 'Save' to continue. In the next window, you can specify which items you want to backup. There are 3 different items that e-Backup can save : Outlook Express Identities Backing up your Outlook Express Identities will make e-Backup save your Outlook Express: - Email accounts - Newsgroup accounts - Preferences - Rules - All folders (e.g. Inbox, Outbox, Hotmail folder, etc.) - All email messages (including attachments) within the folder. Internet Explorer Favorites This will make e-Backup create a copy of all the 'url shortcuts' that are listed in your Internet Explorer Favorites menu. Windows Address Book Backing up your Windows Address Book will make e-Backup create a copy of your OE Address Book. These will all be checked by default. Whenever you enter a dialog for e-backup, tab through the window to hear the available options. This window has a peculiarity of three extra tab stops as tabbing to get back to the next button. Hit enter on next to go to the next step. In this window, if you tab once it will announce your identities. By default all identities in the list are checked. Tab to the backup button and enter. The backup will begin. When finished it will enable and announce the close button. You need to press this button to close this window and return to the main window. I have found I have lost focus when I return from one of the dialogs to go back to the main e-backup windows and I must alt tab back to the e-backup window. To restore a backup. Before every restore: MAKE SURE THAT OUTLOOK EXPRESS IS CLOSED! Choose 'Restore a backup'. e-Backup will ask you which file it should restore, after you have selected the file that you wish to restore, enter on the 'Open' button to continue. In this window, you can specify which items you want to restore. You can restore the same three items you backup up, identities, favorites and your address book. These are all checked by default. Pressing the 'Next' button will take you to the identities window where it will list the identity names which stored in your archive. These will be checked by default. If you enter on next, in this window you have 2 options: replace the current favorites with the favorites from the backup or add the favorites from the backup to your current favorites. After pressing the 'Restore' button the restore will begin. When the process has finished, the 'Close' button will be enabled. You need to press this button to close this window and return to the main window. The first time you start OE after performing a restore, you will be presented with a list of your identities and asked which you want to start with. The e-backup program has excellent on line help available from the on line help and support for e-backup function. They go into great detail about each step in each process. I tested this by doing a backup, running OE and doing a send and receive in order to be able to note a difference between what I had backed up and my current OE. I deleted all my entries in my address book and favorites. I ran the restore and everything was back to the way it was at the time of backup. The backup file that is created is in zip format and you can always use a program like winzip to open the backup file and unzip the files to find the dbx files and address book and favorites. Of course use this program with caution and I would only recommend doing a restore in cases where you have lost messages or were restoring to a new machine.
