Just writing to tell you about the new NER BBS, Not Enough Reality, devoted ot blind gaming, files, and messaging. First, I guess I should tell you how to access it. For those who don't know, most bbs's these days are available via telnet. This protocol is almost like dialing in using a modem as you might have done many years, grin, ago. You'll need a telnet client, a program that can telnet. Windows includes one but it doesn't work as well as I'd like. If you're using jfw as I am, I like a program called teraterm pro. You can download this program, and JFW scripts for it, at the URL: http://www.panix.com/~ccn/ner.html After downloading and installing the program and its scripts (if desired), you can access the NER BBS by following these steps: 1. open TeraTerm, or the telnet client you would like to use 2. Use ner.uark.edu as the host name to connect to. 3. When connected, you should find a welcome screen. To establish a free account, type new. If there is garbage on the screen along with the menus, go into the settings menu, go to terminal and then navigate the page controls until you get to terminal type. Select vt102. That's it. With these three steps out of the way, you'll be connected and on your way to enjoying the games, messages, and chat offered by the NER BBS. Now, for the real meat of the BBS, the games. What games do we offer? Here's a run down with a short description of each game. I'll continue to add games, so watch the bbs and let me know if their's something you'd like to see. The games are devided up into genres: space adventure and trading games, strategy games, roll-playing games, card worde and dice games, and miscelaneous programs. Their is also a list of other Synchronet BBS's which you may enjoy. Space and Adventure Games: Trade Wars 2002: The was a very popular space adventure and trading game in its day, and still is. Travel throughout the 5000 sector universe, trading comodities, colonising planets, and interacting with other players in the game. This is a good way to waste a lot of time, and it's quite addicting. Planets, The Exploration of Space: This is a space trading game that is some what hillarious. Trade such things as plastic trinkets, clothes bundles, novelty items, and ice units at such places as wrinkles and sags, the land of vomit, green world, and many others. Interact with other players on the BBS and also with various computer players. Strategy Games: Baron Realms Elite: Build your own civilization and wage war with other would-be builders. Buy land, build your military, and even launch a nuclear attack, all while keeping your subjects happy and content, and keeping the money flowing in. Soon, you will be able to play with other bulletin boards which could mean playing with hundreds of other people around the world. Global War: This game is quite easy to explain. It's the classic game of risk, playable on a bbs. Falcon's eye: Another civilization game but set in the middle ages. Written by the same people who wrote bre, so this one will be networked as well if there is a demand. Role Playing and Adventure Games Dogworld: You are a dog trying to conquer the world and of course gain levels, experience, and bones which are money in the game. Fight in the alley, pee on fire hydrants in the park and much more. If the game is registered, you can win by finding the evil dog catcher and defeating him. This game is hilarious. Food Fight: A somewhat promitive game that's based on fighting with food. There's no computer players, just other users with the possibility to throw many different types of food. Quite interesting. Legend of the Red Dragon: This is a game that's based on magic and mysticism. Kill things to gain experience and levels up to the ultimate goal of finding the evil red dragon and slaying him. This has also been a popular door of the past. The Beasts Domain: I haven't played with this one much, but it's a basic role playing game, try it and see. Top Cop: You are a copand your goal is to make arrests, gain levels, and catch the most wanted. Try to become the top cop by doing these things. Card, Word, and Dice Games Dice Wars: Play dice with the computer and/or other users that are currently in the game. You bet by using credits which can be used to get more time on the bbs. Domain Poker: Same description as above but this is an accessible multiplayer poker game. Quite neat. Mille Bornes: One of my favorites. Play the classic game of mille bornes in which you try to make it to 1000 miles. This game can also be played between players that are on at the same time as you. Synchronet Blackjack: Play blackjack for credits and ultimately more time on the bbs. War of the words: You are given 15 scrabble times. Try to make as many words out of those tiles in a certain period of time and score points. z-wordz: Make as many three letter words as you can by filling up a score card with random letters. Miscellaneous Programs: Synchronet Matchmaker: Fill out a profile which is distributed over the network. Quite neat. Synchronet Bulletin Board List: View a list of other synchronet bulletin board systems. Bulls eye bulletins: this shows the bulletins such as tp score files for games which are displayed at login. Other Synchronet systems: These are systems that you can connect to from the bbs. I'm still working on vastly enhancing the message base and may even carry mailing lists as well, so stay tuned. The bbs is in flux, so make sure to tell me what I can do to make it more fun to visit. Also let me know if you have any questions. Thanks and Enjoy.
