Question: 

The quality of the VoiceWare Kate and Paul synthesizers is poor when using them with JAWS. How can I improve the voice quality? 

Answer: 

To improve the quality of the VW Paul and VW Kate voices, download the updated Sapi5x.ini file. Be sure to have Eloquence or another non-SAPI5 speech synthesizer
running before proceeding. You will need WinZip or a similar application to unzip the file.

Note: The voices are available from 
NeoSpeech. 

1. Download the file, Sapi5x.zip from the following location and extract it to an easily accessed folder on your hard drive: 
ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/Tools/sapi5x.zip

2. Copy, CTRL+C, the extracted file.
3. Open the Start menu and navigate to Programs or All Programs.
4. Navigate to the JAWS submenu then to Explore JAWS.
5. Select Explore Program Files and press Enter.
6. Press CTRL+V to paste the recently extracted Sapi5.ini file and when prompted, choose yes to replace the file.
7. Restart your computer and switch to one of the NeoSpeech voices. The sound quality should be improved.
